SeventhFloor has talked about all the construction in the Rockaways Post Sandy. It's good to see the money is being invested on the Bay Side of the peninsula.

Meanwhile more newspapers are writing in support of reactivating the Rockaway Beach LIRR.

When the Rockaway Beach LIRR was open one could travel from Penn Station via the mainline branch to Rego Park (RBL splits off from mainline at Rego Park) to the Rockaways in 40 minutes. There's now a push to reactivate the closed portion of the route (part of the route is being used by the A train). The MTA and Port Authority would have to design trains capable of running on the subway, LIRR, and Airtrain as they would plug the Airtrain into this route for one seat side into Manhattan.

"They explained that a one-seat ride was a no-go because the AirTrain, LIRR and subway cars couldn’t, for various technical reasons, run on each other’s tracks. But a hybrid, called the “fourth car,” could operate on all three. It just had to be designed, at an estimated cost back then of $50 million. Not too bad.

Create that — eminently possible given late-90s technology, and even easier to pull off now — and run it over existing rail lines between Manhattan and Queens . Voilà, a true one-seat ride."

Rockaway is taking off...the new 7 story buildings on 67th Street in Rockaway are starting to go up. We just got $91M from the city to revitalize Mott Avenue. I was lucky I had the ability to buy.
