they are a minority in that areas,
Maspeth or Howar Beach are mostly Italian
Poles are easily the dominant European group in Maspeth, same with Ridgewood and possibly Glendale. Middle Village is split between Poles and Italians for the most part.

I haven't been to Middle Village in years, but even then there was a solid Polish presence, with some German stores sprinkled along the way. I'd say your assessment is spot on about all of the areas you mentioned. Was certainly plenty of Italians and Italian-Americans during the World Cup. Remember it vividly. It was a beautiful moment. You had grown men hugging each other. lol!
And Southern Italy gets pretty hot so those swarthier phenotypes seem natural for the area anyway.
Puerto Ricans marry out a lot, but I would add that both are generally Catholic so there's that commonality.
Allesia Cara does look pretty exotic (I wouldn't say half black though). Most Italians don't look like her, though.
Even white supremacists consider them white. Most of them look like "regular white people" to me, except occasionally I'll see a really swarthy Arab looking Italian.
A bit anecdotal on my part but for about half of the Italians I meet and interact with in this city I would not flinch if they had told me they were PR or another Latino group instead of Italian. The "swarthy" variety make up a big chunk of the Italian/Italian-American populace in this city not counting the many who are mixed but claim Italian mostly.

Again you're exposed to mainly Southern Italians and Sicilians. The Moors did mix with the population in those areas, so the features or comparisons to Latinos should come as no surprise. I've seen plenty of mixed Italians too in Italy (in other words mixed with Black) that look just like Puerto Ricans or Dominicans.
