If you take out the criminal element, crime goes away, mostly. But what happens when it is taxed to high, like cigarettes? there will be an underground anyway. There are legal dispensaries in nyc, but you need a prescription, and there are like only a handful of places to go to. And you still will have underage girls being pimped out, the abuse will still be there.
All in all, I would not want loved ones confused into thinking being a prostitute is OK. Would not want to marry a sex worker. It will crush many parents to know their daughters are sex workers , paying their way to college. It will confuse the hell out of kids that mommy is doing the nasty.
As for weed, like drinking, should be kept out of public view. I will not be comfortable with some guy walking down the block, drinking a 40 oz beer , as much as some pothead blowing smoke my way.

If someone is being FORCED into prostitution, you focus your resources on prosecuting the person who is forcing people to sell their bodies.
Beyond that, what two consenting adults do in their time together is their business and the government should stay out of other people's business. Again you legalize it and you take the criminal element out of the willing prostitution, and the only criminals would be those forcing other people to do it.
We've all seen the corner bum drinking hard liquor outside, and arresting that person won't help either. They need help as they have a substance abuse problem, and probably additional psychological problems there. A person smoking weed outside is not necessarily an addict, and punishing casual users does nothing to help people who have severe alcohol or other drug addictions. There's currently an epidemic of opiate users dying, and it's straining social services as they have to put the children in foster care. Just locking the parents up would still mean the kids go to foster care, and when they get out of jail they will probably go back to using hard drugs. Money needs to be spent on treating those with addictions and yes the person has to be willing to be treated. Still treating addicts like criminals does not stop people from using drugs, all it does is destroy the lives of those incarcerated. Parents who to jail may not be able to find work when they come out due to a criminal record, and it means the government has to support their children into adulthood potentially.
Drug addicts and prostitutes who some people want locked up are people, and yes they have children too. Some prostitutes have willingly done it to support their children. Today the city instead of locking them up generally offers them a change to get some sort of job training to find legitimate work, especially if they are victims of human trafficking.
