A $1600 2 bedroom is going to be extremely tough, if not impossible, with the search parameters the OP set out in the first post. He/she wants 30-40 minute commute to Midtown and no bus as part of commute.
In my area (Jackson Heights), even the studios are renting for $1600 and $1650. Yes, there may also be a one bedroom here or there for $1600 or $1650 if you look hard enough as well. Mostly the one bedrooms are $1800+ from what I've seen listed.
So I think the best idea is actually a one bedroom that has a floor plan that lends itself to sharing with a roommate. This should not be impossible to find. Although... seems I just read one more post from the OP that he's looking for that $1600 to include furnishings, and that may be hard or impossible. I would say just buy cheap furniture and furnishings from local cheap furniture stores, or make one big run to Ikea. There are thousands of one-year-only international grad students facing this same challenge, and I have seen first hand that they just make one big IKEA run and are pretty much set up for the year.
Can I rent 2 bedroom apartment with 1600$? What hood has this kinda Apts? Most of cheap apartments are not furnished and I'm here for only 1 year.
It sounds like your best option is to go the Craigslist route and find someone who is looking for a roommate. Shouldn't be a hard to find a room that is already furnished. If you are only going to be in NYC for 1 year, then I wouldn't go through the hassle of getting your own place.
Most landlords will likely be unwilling to rent a 1 bedroom to two roommates, if we're talking about a traditional living + bed room layout. They look for single people or couples. It's not exactly a renter's market here and you'd be surprised how picky landlords can be.
What you can look for is a 1 bed room that has two separate rooms, i.e no real living rooms, just two rooms with their own doors.
As for a 2 bedroom for $1600, there are some out there but it's a tough find and one or both of the bedroom will likely be very small. You'd be deep in Brooklyn and Queens. Somewhere like Bensonhurst or Gravesend in Brooklyn should have some small 2 beds for $1600.
It's certainly not a renter's market! Landlords in NYC have an insane amount of leverage.
I think OP is going to have trouble finding a 1 bedroom at $1600 ANYWHERE in the City. Perhaps $1800 is a bit more realistic for the low end.
Really, anywhere in the city? Do you mean just Manhattan perhaps?
OP, the first few responses on this thread are accurate. $1600 for a one-bedroom is doable in western Queens if you look hard enough. Central queens is no problem.

I agree. These other two posters (Kefit King and silverbullnyc) are being melodramatic. There are still plenty of places where 1,600 or thereabouts can get you a sizable one bedroom. Maybe they won't be hip or trendy, but who gives a damn? A short cab ride away and you're where you want to be. Besides, don't both of these people live in Manhattan anyway? They shouldn't even be allowed to comment since they're likely Manhattan-centric. You know there is NO world outside of Manhattan.

There are plenty 1 bed rooms in Brooklyn and Queens for $1450-$1650. I literally just rented an excellent 1 bed in Bay Ridge for $1650 and it was one of at least 10 that I looked at for similar prices. Most were in the 600-800 sqf range and had modern finishes. You can find similar rentals in Astoria, Sunset Park, Midwood etc etc.
