New FreshDirect HQ to open in summer 2017 | News 12 Bronx
Fresh Direct is the biggest company to move major operations to the South Bronx (much bigger companies may have operations in the South Bronx, but Fresh Direct's relocation is a high profile and substantial investment). I think investments from companies like Fresh Direct, and from Silvercup Studios which opened up last year in Port Morris, will be what truly gentrifies the South Bronx and the rest of the Bronx.

As more companies relocate, and as startups expand, you'll get even more developer interest.
I know we have other South Bronx gentrification threads, but as controversial as Fresh Direct was when Bloomberg offered them subsidies to relocate to the South Bronx, this deserved a separate thread. I'm glad Bloomberg gave them subsidies to move in, as they were planning to move to the Jersey. This keeps Fresh Direct's money and tax dollars in the city. And it's helped develop the Bronx.
