Howdy I need suggestions for lighting my new studio apartment. The ceiling has no light on it I have one large window in the rear of the building. Im pretty sure Im stuck with floor lamps due to the plethora of floor lamps out there Im not sure which would be most effective thanks for the advice.

Don't overlook pendant lamps (that you hang from the ceiling) since they won't take up floor space or much visual space either. A dimmer helps to set different moods with one lamp - tv viewing, work, company... And consider mirrors for dark wall areas esp opposite windows.

Can tell you this: Have floor lamps in both apartments, even with one having lighting from ceiling. Can recommend some. Have had one in one of my apartments for years. Be warned: Floor lamps can be expensive. Bulbs too. Purchased floor lamp that cost $500 + delivery. Just replaced bulb that blew out yesterday. Each bulb about $10. Can be more economical though. Lower ConEd bill or whatever.

I've also assumed that most floor lamps are equally "effective," and that it's large a matter of taste. And price.

go to home depot, and pick up the six foot tall lamps, that point up. get a pack of energy saving bulbs, and just set it up. very god lighting, not in your face. lamps are $40-$50 EACH, no need to splurge, a light is a light.

I have a similar set up. I have a lamp on the dinette table for the kitchen. I actually have lightening in the kitchen but it makes a terrible sound. I also have a lamp on my night table. The lightening is okay. I need a floor lamp. I guess three lamps would provide sufficient lightening. I will probably wait until the Fall. The sun provides good lightening in the Summer.
