I was trying to figure out if I was reading too much into it. A year or two ago, I happened to go by the parade, and it was just after a major legislative or judicial victory. It seemed to me that the parade was absolutely jubilant. I happened to go by it yesterday (and at 6:00 p.m., there were still marchers setting off from the starting point!), and the vibe seemed somehow more assertive, more militant. Which would be understandable, of course. Or was it my imagination?
Everything even remotely political, on the left or the right, is becoming more militant, more preachy, more self righteous, more exclusionary of dissent, and more angry.

Or maybe just freedom of expression? Thats allowed, right?

Or maybe it is a sign of chaotic climax preceding a massive self destruction of the current system?
It is almost a century since WWI erupted. I feel that it is about time that humans are about to start another round of self destrution. We just need a trigger of some sort.
Is there any reason this parade in particular is allowed to go on forever?
All I know is the parade and the festivities surrounding it meant I was very busy at work yesterday.
Don't know how long the thing usually goes on for, but yesterday was IIRC the 40th anniversary of the event. As such you had a very long list of honorees, invitees, etc... That and it was the first time a major television network (Channel 7/ABC News) gave live start to finish television coverage. Well they blocked off several hours of afternoon programming slots anyway.
Thankfully that parade is one of a handful that go *down* Fifth Avenue instead of marching northward. As such the UES was quiet and it was a beautiful day to get around and do things.
