Always on the lookout for yourself and your family. A neighborhood may used to be good, but could easily change over time. Don't assume your packages is safe because is never safe until the package is on your hand. Not trying to be negative here, but I want you to be on the safe side. I want you to be safe than sorry.

Wish you the best!

She'll be fine unless she's completely oblivious of city life. Stay away from Ave D and the upper part of Ave C (like 11th and higher I think) and you'll be fine. Basically stay away from the projects.

These days though, it's really not that bad, I go to the Crown Fried Chicken from time to time on Ave D and further down on Columbia St I sometimes shop at the Key Food.

Avenue D is weird, it's like a small chunk of the South Bronx in Lower Manhattan.

But yeah I don't think it's even that bad, although there's not much reason to go there.

Where packages are left depends on the building, not on the neighborhood.

And while I understand that it's normal for a mother to worry about her daughter, your concern about Starbucks seems bizarre. If she's old enough to sign a lease, she's old enough to find a cup of coffee. One hopes she'll find some charming little unique coffee shop and not resort to a national chain.

I used to love living in Riis Projects on Avenue D because it was so close to all of the nice amenities of Manhattan. I would go to the farmers market and go to plays at public theater and **** like that. My apartment was spacious and the courtyard was nice in that project also I could work out right there on the river.

But yes it was a struggle in the projects one summer I saw two stabbings and got jumped. There are lots of gangs in the area and people living in poverty who are angry about the cost of living rising in their neighborhood and who are fed up with yuppies

So long as she stays away from Ave D she'll be fine. Ave D consists of 14 city blocks of low income housing projects.

If it were 1983, I'd be terrified. Nowadays, not so much. If anything, she may have a little too much fun.

Yeah. The area has really turned around. But don't go so far as Avenue D.

That's a really odd statement to make. You realize the PJs were there before gentrification right?

Formerly a hell-hole. Avenue A on Tompkins park is now the locale of multi-million dollar new apartments. Perfectly safe for your daughter.
