I just found out that Zaro's Bread Basket closed in 2015. That makes me sad. I always got a croissant before catching the train. I like Parkchester....you just can't beat the convenience.

ETA - and they replaced it with that meh chain Boston Market

Zaro's has reopened in a new location. Zaro's Bakery returns to the Bronx with grand opening

If you have no problem trekking to Eastchester Road and Morris Park Av, Good To Go is one of the best restaurants in the Bronx. I like Frankie & Johnnie, too (Bronxdale Avenue, also nearby), but Good To Go is a bit more quaint, with much less noise!

Why is Parkchester so expensive?! It seems like it was SOOOOO much cheaper just a few years ago when I was looking. Now it's totally out of my price range Same with that craphole Flatbush Gardens where studios are almost 1700 dollars now. wtf?

Only have to use logic. Prices go up elsewhere, people look for cheaper places, and so it goes.

Prices have gone up everywhere. You got to get in there early.

Only a few years ago, two bedroom coops in a building I was interested in were 200K cheaper than they are now. I wish I could've stretched it then but I just couldn't.

That's definitely weekend material due to the distance, but I will try it. But is it Italian food or Italian American food. I prefer Italian, not Italian American. When I was looking to live near Pelham Park, I did identify F&J Pine as a place to eat. Is that the same as Frankie and Johnnies?

It's a restaurant/bar. I would say more restaurant. To be honest I've haven't been back in a while so maybe it's nice again. There used to be a small dive bar right next to it owned by the same people ( a Greek family I believe) but they got rid of it.

I had gone not too long after they remodeled Spep-Ib and it seemed to have lost its charm additionally the menu was so bland. It seemed like a place struggling to find its new identity. But again to be fair that was a while ago.

There's a 2 bedroom in my building that sold for $299K in 2014 and then just sold again in 2017 for $595K. So essentially the people who sold it in 2014 lost $300K. They moved south and bought a house in a rural area. I highly doubt their house saw that kind of appreciation in the same three years. I feel a little sorry for them, and a little envious of the 2014 buyers who made $300K in 3 years.
