Shocking right?

Cracks me up that people think if you aren't ok and put up with ghetto behavior you must be a transplant.

Cite please.

I am aware of lots of carbon monoxide deaths but I have never heard of one in a multistory with an external source. Frankly I don't believe it.

I'm surprised that no one commented on that piece of ghetto trash that threw something at the cop while his back was turned. But then again I'm not....

You say it's a "ratchet dump", yet if you had foresight you could have made a lot of money investing in it.

I have mixed feelings. There's the letter of the law and the intent of the law. Many laws aren't enforced to the letter of the law.

We all know that certain neighborhoods are given leeway in certain circumstances.

Ever been to Borough Park on Thursday evenings or Friday's? Everyone is double parked and the NYPD doesn't ticket. Why? Because the Sabbath is coming up and the community's residents have time constraints.

Ever been to Brighton Beach where stores openly sell food on the sidewalk. Is that legal? I doubt it. It's allowed because the community likes it that way.

Ever been to Manhattan's Chinatown? You don't think the DOB can't temporarily close down/condemn a substantial number of buildings in the area? They don't because it would hurt the community and I'm sure the communities local politicians have a say in that.

I don't think the OP has it wrong when they imply that gentrification is changing the way the neighborhood is being policed.

That was stupid of the cop. I would have been like,"hey guys! Happy holiday! As per code we can't BBQ on the sidewalk, so please finish up. Don't do it again or I'll have to ticket you. Wow that smells great!" Then hang out and talk to the kids and the locals. Make sure they don't continue to add coals. Thank them and wish them a nice night.

Good policing requires the neighborhood and the residents to look up to you and respect you. Now all those people just have another reason to hate cops and that is getting passed along to the kids.

This was a lost chance to engage with residents.

Then you have seen a ton of sidewalk bbq's and then some.

Nyc culture is slowly slipping away, if I wanted a suburban dull lifestyle I would have moved to Long Island with the rest of the boring people
