New York does seem to have caught up to some degree on the national fatness trend since I left in 2007 and moved back a year ago. You still see more skinny people than your average place in the US, but the difference does not seem as significant as it used to.
Pretty much everywhere is fat now. It's a health disaster waiting to happen.
