And even though all but one Texas Republican voted against the federal Sandy aid package in 2012 to rebuild our roads and tunnels and help thousands of our stranded storm victims, we don't hold grudges.
We won't call the disaster relief money they're now begging for "pork" or "wasteful spending," talk about God's will, and send our thoughts and prayers. We won't oppose increasing flood insurance, as eight Texas Republicans did - a federal program that was already running out of money before Sandy hit.
Cruz and Cornyn were among 36 Republicans who voted against the January 2013 supplemental disaster aid bill.
“Hurricane Sandy inflicted devastating damage on the East Coast, and Congress appropriately responded with hurricane relief. Unfortunately, cynical politicians in Washington could not resist loading up this relief bill with billions in new spending utterly unrelated to Sandy,” Cruz said in a January 2013 statement. “Emergency relief for the families who are suffering from this natural disaster should not be used as a Christmas tree for billions in unrelated spending, including projects such as Smithsonian repairs, upgrades to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration airplanes, and more funding for Head Start.”
Cruz called it a spending package "chock-full of pork."
Cornyn took a like-minded position.
Cornyn spokesman Drew Brandewie tweeted Friday that the senator voted against the final bill at the time because it included "extraneous $ for non-relief items."
It's funny because someone in another post, stated why do people live in the carribean due to all the hurricanes. I hold the same belief, however the people that live in the Caribbean doesn't really have a choice giving poverty and the ability to not have the means to move to another country or get citizenship elsewhere.
Now all these people in the states are being stubborn and cheap in where they choose to reside. But then again half of them don't believe in the weather and let God protect them. While fema gives them money.
We talk about waste, it's waste to continually build in hurricane prone areas. They need to stop taking our money due to horrible decisions in planning
Disasters happen all over the world, whether hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, blizzards, or wherever. Disasters are simply a part of life, and after the disaster life goes on.
NYC is not immune to either hurricanes or earthquakes.
Leftists were not able to fathom situations where Obama didn't get everything he wanted. Keep that in mind in discussions like this.
It doesn't matter whether Cruz et al were clear on their complaints. They bucked the savior. They must pay.
Quite clearly Texas and now Florida MUST receive into the hundreds of billions of dollars from insurance companies and the federal government, and now Irma is heading into Georgia and Alabama.
Hurricane Jose may hit the East Coast, and it's possible it could hit NY.
You have a lot of infrastructure near the water which also got damaged, and yes it will get rebuilt.
If they need a loan, then by all means. But no enabling of reckless construction
