Why do so many people in The Bronx not use their neighborhood names? (New York: co-op, houses)

He doesn't read too good, especially if he can find some part to misread or take out of context and then go on a neurotic jag where he runs his mouth about some opinion or another. This is the beauty of a forum as mixed and varied as the NYC forum--we have such a great diversity here!
Am not sure what you're running your mouth about now. Already clarified my point earlier.
When I am outside of The Bronx and people ask me where I live I say " The Bronx."
When I am in The Bronx and people ask me where I live I say " Pelham Parkway".
It's because I don't expect anyone outside of The Bronx to have a clue of where Pelham Parkway is because even most NY'ers don't have a clue about anything having to do with The Bronx, except Yankee Stadium which isn't a neighborhood.
When people ask me what part of The Bronx Pelham Parkway is in and I say " it's in the middle" they seem to get totally confused even though it is almost dead center in the middle of The Bronx. Ignorance by outsiders of everything having to do with The Bronx is astounding so I just say " The Bronx" and watch the look on their face.

But I've asked people what part of the Bronx they live in, and rather than responding with a neighborhood like someone in any of the other boroughs would do, they've responded "Gun Hill" or "Brook Ave" or "Jerome Ave".

That I can't explain. If anyone asked me where in The Bronx I live I would definitely say Pelham Parkway.
Luckily it's a major street, a subway stop and an official NYC neighborhood so I can't be called out for using a street as my neighborhood.
I live a block off Castle Hill Ave and falsely concluded I was in the Castle Hill section. Turns out my home is technically in Union Port. If people ask me I tell you them I live in the Union Port section now. Which is good, since it's Castle Hill Ave with out the PJs.

I thought Unionport was a sub neighborhood of Soundview
I tell people who don't live in the bx I'm from the bx cos I'm representing a hard working tough as nails no nonsense borough . If I say I'm from belmont people have no idea where I'm from. If I talk to people from the bx I'm from little italy and they know what I'm talking about
Piano District? Is that some new, yuppie/millenial gentrification name?
