Corona may still be cheap - it's not such a safe neighborhood either.
I don't think Ridgewood is really cheap anymore, because it has gotten all the Williamsburg and Bushwick artsy types.
Corona is almost as expensive as Jackson Heights. It migjt be cheap compared to Manhattan and Brownstone Brooklyn, but that doesn"t mean it's cheap.
And Corona isn't that dangerous, the precinct it is in tends to have between 0 and 1 murders per year. That trulia crime map you're referring to is very misleading, it has Jackson Heights and Midtown Manhattan shaded the same as Brownsville and East New York.
The article is BS! 1 Family house, in any decent shape, is going for $550k , minumum.
Rent, if your lucky, in RS building is at $1500 per month for a 1 br.
That $444k home , is avaliable in Hollis, querns village, jamaica, richmond hill, all closer to jamaica avenue and south.
You may find a 1-2 bedroom condo for about $500k in the mentioned hoods, if you look.
Flushing is a gold mine wherever you go. Home of the million dollar condo, facing flushing bay or FMCP. The view od the skyline of manhattan is commanding top dollar, get it while its hot. 35 minutes to times square on the 7 Train is a reality.
Also, not accusing you of this Shoshana, but I think Corona gets a bad reputation just because its a heavily Hispanic neighborhood.
It might not be a nice neighborhood, but it is not particularly dangerous anymore.
Maybe you're right.
I used to work there, but that was 10 years ago. At that times, the families who lived there complained that it was gang-infested. They were afraid for their children.
But maybe it has changed in the past 10 years?

I looked at the crime statistics for the precinct, they don't seem to be particularly high.
In the murder and felonious assault categories, as well as the all crimes category, the 110th precinct has the lightest shade.
