“No, it’s not.” Then, why does it exist?
You perhaps are the only person who might not vote for the candidates who promise to help you and other Americans because, according to you, that is not what government is for.
Your opinion is correct when all countries were ruled by monarchies whose sole purpose is their own self interest; the “me-only” class. But, I believe we fought a Revolution to change that and many countries followed us.
Then, for whom is “
the reason government exists”
The answer is the first three words in our Constitution: “We the People”
Any deviation is criminal and there are some politicians who fall into that category.
But, the Constitution sets the rule and the criminal politicians and stupid politicians are the exceptions who need to be filtered out at Election Day. If they are not, then, “We the People” have no one to blame but themselves as in the last two elections and primaries.
Rather than complaining, people need to take a role in their political party to ensure only qualified candidates are running.
Democracy is not a passive form of government!
Democratic government exists to serve the entire electorate from creating an environment to enhance one’s fortune to helping those out of luck. (The general welfare of one is the welfare of all – one for all, all for one)
“No, it’s not.” Then, dissolve government and have no government. Is that what you prefer? Or, do you prefer to return to the “me-only” class before our Revolution. The Revolutionary period created the principle that everyone is entitled to as well as have the responsibility to ensure that all can obtain “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.
The reason that “We the People” have established a government as outlined in our Constitution is to “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure liberty”. (The general welfare of one is the welfare of all – one for all, all for one)
