Bernie Sanders types already have plenty of countries they’ve ruined. Move to Venezuela if you want that lifestyle.

Venezuela is in deep doo doo. I had a Uber driver tell me that people are eating dogs, don't have toilet paper, etc. He described Venezuela in 70-80s as an emerging 1-2 world country. They had the newest cars, clothes, etc.

Obviously you have no idea of what you are talking about.

If you really want to find ”Bernie Sanders types” in “ruined” countries go to Scandinavia, Europe, and in this country: FDR followed by Lyndon Johnson!

For example, one of Bernie Sanders’ ideas is to extend Lyndon Johnson’s program to all Americans.

The Republicans created our national debt with their folly of going into Iraq; beforehand we had a tremendous surplus. To offset their debt should we tax you personally more or, rather, for those who are as rich as Trump to charge them a surcharge to be offered the opportunity to amass such a fortune which they cannot as easily do anywhere else but in the USA no matter how much effort they put in. This opportunity like everything else has a price or should they be given a free ticket to amass tremendous fortunes in a country where they have no responsibility to pay a surcharge for being given that opportunity to amass their fortunes. And some well-known billionaires (Warren Buffett, Bill Gates) publicly said that they should pay more proportionally; and those agreeing billionaires did not come from your unrelated "Venezuela". So, let’s raise your personal tax to pay down the Republican debt in lieu of the surcharge so the billionaires can obtain an additional yacht or jet plane to add to their private fleet. Get out your checkbook and put your money where your mouth is.

My mouth is firmly on a government that doesn’t take much of anyone’s money. You seem to believe that government has a right to our money because it alone creates opportunity.

“My mouth is firmly on a government that doesn’t take much of anyone’s money.”

I agree with you when it comes to Bush’s Iraq War, Republican’s destroying the federal surplus, the lavish offices of our “hired-hands” in Congress.

I disagree with you when it helps the average citizen for that is the reason government exists in the first place!

“No, it’s not.” Then, why does it exist?

You perhaps are the only person who might not vote for the candidates who promise to help you and other Americans because, according to you, that is not what government is for.

Your opinion is correct when all countries were ruled by monarchies whose sole purpose is their own self interest; the “me-only” class. But, I believe we fought a Revolution to change that and many countries followed us.

Then, for whom is “the reason government exists”

The answer is the first three words in our Constitution: “We the People”

Any deviation is criminal and there are some politicians who fall into that category.

But, the Constitution sets the rule and the criminal politicians and stupid politicians are the exceptions who need to be filtered out at Election Day. If they are not, then, “We the People” have no one to blame but themselves as in the last two elections and primaries.

Rather than complaining, people need to take a role in their political party to ensure only qualified candidates are running.

Democracy is not a passive form of government!

Democratic government exists to serve the entire electorate from creating an environment to enhance one’s fortune to helping those out of luck. (The general welfare of one is the welfare of all – one for all, all for one)

“No, it’s not.” Then, dissolve government and have no government. Is that what you prefer? Or, do you prefer to return to the “me-only” class before our Revolution. The Revolutionary period created the principle that everyone is entitled to as well as have the responsibility to ensure that all can obtain “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.

The reason that “We the People” have established a government as outlined in our Constitution is to “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure liberty”. (The general welfare of one is the welfare of all – one for all, all for one)

Government exists to provide an environmental which is conduscive to prosperity, happiness and success. Government doesn’t exist to “help people”. Achieving those goals are your own responsibility.

Our Constitution did not create the government we have today where “helping people” is simply an excuse for vacuuming up more and more of our money and leveling rules and regulations that control nearly every aspect of our lives. Decades of currupt politicians conditioning the populace to be dependent upon the teat is how we got to the point that hundreds of millions believe the government is there to “help people”.

"Government exists to provide an environmental which is conduscive to prosperity, ... and success. "

Government exists to serve the citizenry in ALL respects and not just those selective ones of greedy individuals.

You mean the bag fee that was NOT implemented?
