It's all relative. Most co-ops would be cheap if there were many of them available and they needed work. Such is the case with Riverdale. If it had direct subway access it would be more expensive, but that and the lack of amenities for some is often a *complaint*.

True, there's the relative factor but also the absolute dollar value factor. Riverdale's comparatively cheaper condo and coop market allows many who could otherwise not afford to buy in the city to do so. If I was going to move back to the city I'd definitely consider Riverdale, among a few other options.

Condos there are *not* cheap. The co-ops however are reasonable.

We will continue to disagree. They are cheap to me and others, especially compared to the price of condos in other safe NYC neighborhoods.

I'm seeing 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom condos for sale between 600-750k in Riverdale. That's "cheap" to me, especially considering what I referenced above. Yes you also have your multi-million dollar condo listings in Riverdale, but good luck finding 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom condos in other safe area of the city. You may find some but its not the norm.

For $750,000 you could get a house in some parts of the city. Am not sure how that is *cheap* for a condo and what you are basing it on.

Sure, primarily in crappy parts of the city as a general matter. And, comparatively speaking, yes, $600k-$750k is cheap for a condo of that size. Around where my family lives in Prospect Heights, a studio condo will go for $600k and up. Looking at a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom and you're WELL over a million.

Where is this “cheap” cost of living you speak of?

One hour and 30 minutes train ride from NYC there are big drop in prices. One hour train ride homes and rents are still expensive. I would say at aleast two hours from NYC rents are somewhat affordable. Everyone moving to one hour away towns it driving up prices
