As far as I know you don't tickets but you will need to spend a good part of your day in the area in order to get a spot from which to see the tree lighting ceremony.

One of the many times I wish I did not work in the area..
I've only done it once, but it was probably the densest crowd of people I've ever been in, at least outside of the subway.
There was one point where I was pushed into such an angle that my feet were out from under me, but I didn't fall because everyone was packed so tightly that there wasn't enough space (or give) to fall.

Make contacts at Tishman Speyer and ask for an invite to the private party. The other option is the NBC party across the rink, much harder to score an invite
