I currently have the opportunity to move into a studio, but it is further from my job and far from most of my social circle. My commute would also increase to around an hour on the subway, if they are not delayed. I would be doing a Queens to Brooklyn commute. I also have the opportunity to move in with a friend to an apartment closer to things in the city and closer to work. Not sure what to do. Savings living with a roommate might be around $200 a month. Any thoughts?
if like to party or feel lonely, go with the friend. If not, go alone in the studio.
Am in agreement. Aside from that, never understood grow-ups getting roommates. Unless one is young and broke, better to have your own place, even if that means a longer commute.
^^^ this.
So many of my millennial friends make the mistake of moving in with someone and wind up fighting and moving back out.
Let me tell you about a life lesson - there is no substitute for peace of mind. Man up and commute - it doesn’t get any better than having your own independence.

Have *never* had roommates, even when I was in college. Am very particular about how I like things so would not want to deal with slobs and the like.

Lol, and am here to tell you I have never had a problem with keeping an apartment clean and I am the same way. Perhaps you are just bad at reading people.

Lol, it doesn't occur to you that having roommates in NYC is quite normal?
