Question: If I have a sign on my driveway, can I skip the 311 / NYPD process and call a tow truck company to tow the vehicle?
I'd have called a tow company by now.

Or you can place these on windshields whenever someone is blocking/partially blocking your drive way. I actually did it and the holes finally stopped.

Unless on private property (such as a parking lot) or whatever you cannot have a vehicle towed until NYPD issues a ticket. Way around this as already mentioned is posting a sign saying those parking in this or that restricted area will be towed....

I live in Nassau County. They'd show up a lot faster and have it towed.

Just to let you know, if you state that vehicles will be towed, your sign must include the information of the tow truck company as well as their business licence number. You should read the Removal Of Vehicles Improperly Parked On Private Property law before you do anything.

Posting your own sign on a public street solves nothing. Non-DOT signs are unenforceable. The NYPD or traffic must issue a ticket before a tow company will tow UNLESS the parking location is private, ie a private lot, street, driveway (as in in the driveway which does happen), etc.

Bugsy had it right two pages back: if this is a common occurrence for you, hit up the local precinct and make some friends on the tour when it happens most frequently. Donuts are a tired joke. Pizza and bagels are real... Then, get friendly with the closest and roughest looking tow company. Not the one that’s real nice and deals with your insurance company. The one that has drivers who you would be scared to meet at night. Give them flashlights, work gloves, beer, and homemade apple and blueberry pies.

Problem solved.

That’s for private property, such as lots and HOA streets, not blocking driveways on public streets. Tow trucks will not tow from a public street unless the NYPD has issued a ticket. They actually come to the precinct afterwards to log the tow in.
