Love, love, love this. Basically those who get caught red handed stealing, their pics are taken, some in HD and put on a wall or in some cases in front of a business. I find these to be absolutely hilarious. Some businesses make em hold up the item they were attempting to steal to the camera. But usually they pull footage from any camera

Nothing new, stores have been doing this for ages. Well at least behind the scenes in staff only areas.
For one thing it serves as a reminder for those on floors who to look for as a potential shoplifter.
IIRC Macy's and Bloomingdales have a very big wall that showcases those arrested for shoplifting. It *may* be near the jail/holding cells both of these stores have where those caught are held until NYPD arrives.
In the 70s A&S had a team of store detectives that were regulars in the arraignment part at 120 Schermerhorn St.
Come to think of it nearly all NYC at least department stores have such a wall of shame. Bergdorf Goodman's has one, so does Saks IIRC. Bergdorf's used to be in/near the employee/staff/service entry on 58th Street. That or maybe they had more than one location for viewing.
Sad thing is often there are more than a few employee (former) pictures posted on these boards. As anyone in retail knows and or can tell you a large percentage of shortages are inside jobs.
Bloomingdales also has fake ceilings where LE can observe floors below. This again is often equally on employees and shoppers.
If you do shoplift, here's a hint. Don't shoplift Duane Reade.
I sat Grand Jury in Manhattan once. There are lots of small time drug dealer, one or two Macy's shoplifters (including an employee), and scads of Duane Reade shoplifters. They're serious about going after them and prosecuting. I also learned that there's huge secondary market for deodorant.

I can vouch. Deodorant is a RIP OFF!!!! Also, am I the only one who rips apart the entire canister/tube and will get like 5 - 10 more uses out of the deodorant wax that's hidden UNDERNEATH the applicator!?!? GRRRRRRR
I actually hate this. It makes the store and neighborhood look undesirable.
This.
