Aeren, yeah... where i grew up in jersey they were just called Delis and corner stores. Even if they were owned by hispanic people. Bodega seems very NYC-specific. So most of the corner stores and deli stores that exist in gentrified areas to me just seem like fauxdegas... It's probably considered racist or cultural appropriation to call a deli or corner store (even the high end ones) a bodega now, so I tread lightly.
Even in the super gentrified part of Bushwick, you can still find bodegas everywhere and not "fauxdegas" which I haven't seen in real life.

You've never seen a fauxdega in real life.. in BUSHWICK!? :/ Everything is 3x the price and there's a ton of stupid faux medicines for hangovers at the cash register area.

Nope, prices I've seen are the same as in Brownsville and East New York.
Are you seriously trying to say that the Yemeni owned corner stores found all over black NYC neighborhoods aren't bodegas? They have the same layout and purpose as the Hispanic ones. The biggest difference is that the Hispanic ones sell pork and alcohol while the Arab ones usually don't.
And why would a West Indian owned place (which I haven't seen many of, most bodegas in Caribbean neighborhoods are owned by Arabs) but not an Arab owned place?
And those yellow and red awnings are long gone for the most part; most bodegas, whether Hispanic or Arab owned, now have either vinyl awnings or ugly flashing LED signs.
Edit: I see you now include Middle Eastern as valid. But yes, I'm not referring to every deli as a bodega, but any type of place that sells the usual bodega stuff.
They do sell booze but on the down low they put the booze in the basement they don't have the nyc liquor license i have seen the city shut down a few arabs places in harlem!
I've never heard of bodega restaurants. What are those? Is it like one of those deli places that has a really expensive salad bar where the food is by the pound?
Nah, "bodega restaurants" was me being sarcastic. Go to Williamsburg and you will see a small cafe/restaurant on every corner where a bodega used to be.
Here is the post if you want to read it. I wrote it in 2014.

You missed the point of the post (if you read it). The point was while walking several blocks we didn't see one. All we saw were the small restaurants that to us seemed out of place. We weren't expecting it.
It was like walking the Upper East Side in the 80's and seeing a Gap on every corner.
