Taken the train before to go to a Yankee game which is easy to do .

I am going to the knicks game December 16th and I wanted to get to the game via train from Albany New York

I was told there is a direct train from renselear train station in Albany and goes direct under neath Madison square garden is this true ?

I want to leave first thing Saturday morning and be able to gr back home to Albany after the game without driving is this possible ? Please any info would be appreciated

Yes! This is totally true there is the Albany-Rensselaer station that goes straight to Penn Station which is basically where Madison Square Garden is.

You'll probably be riding the Empire Service route (there are several trains running that route including routes named Ethan Allen Express, Maple Leaf and Adirondack). You can try to navigate that here: https://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak

If the ticket prices seem steep, then you can see if you can do one leg of it via bus and one leg by train (probably bus in, train out).
