Moving from Bay Ridge to the city... (New York, York: sublet, apartment)

Hi all - need some advise from you wonderful CD forum folks.

I live in studio co-op apartment in Bay Ridge and want to Manhattan. I own the studio, want to sublet it and rent a studio in NYC. There are several reasons for this 1) The common charges keeps going through the roof (elevator repairs, corrupt board, etc) 2) I have been living in the same apartment for 9 years and want some change - mainly live in the city. I can rent out my apartment at a profit easily (more than what I am paying in mortgage and common charges combined) I currently work in FiDi.

I am 34 year old, single young professional.
Budget: $2100 per month - hoping to stick closer to 2k. I am looking for an apartment that is is fairly good shape, I don't care if it is small.

What suggestions/advice can you give me regarding location? Any input is appreciated.

If the common charges of your coop keep going up, why not sell the Bay Ridge apartment?
It almost seems like it might be a good idea to get rid of it.

For your information it is common for many from the outer boroughs to call Manhattan "the city" or "New York City".


Growing up on Staten Island nearly everyone referred to Manhattan as "the City" and still do as in "I'm going to the city....".


This is not unique to New York. Persons living in the outer boroughs surrounding London often and still to refer to that place as "the city", even though they are already technically already in such a place.

"The city", yes, "New York City", no
