This is a Facebook posting from De blasio's page:

70% of people currently living in homeless shelters are families. They are dealing with a very unfair economic reality in our society, and it is our job to turn the tide on homelessness for them. We will be converting cluster buildings into permanent, rent-stabilized homes for families in need. If we can't reach a mutual decision with the current landlords, we will utilize eminent domain to secure these buildings. This is just one piece of what has to be a constantly evolving strategy to fight homelessness.

So it's either negotiate or make private tenements public. The landlords do not have a chance to battle it out and get what they want.

This sounds like a disaster!

Why can't the city and the federal government construct large apartment complexes and house the homeless there. Takes them off the street and would allow them to better address there problems.

They've already done that in the past... Sort of... They're called housing projects... Those money pits that is costing the city and us taxpayers a fortune to maintain. That was a grand idea too...

Never mind: Found the article:

"The city is targeting buildings where more than 50 percent of the units are occupied by homeless people, which works out to roughly 800 apartments across 25 to 30 buildings in the Bronx"

So the Bronx will be burning again?

Many of the city's homeless are homeless because of either mental issues or drug/alcohol dependence. Those factors are not for making a nice neighborhood.

So then don't complain about people living on the street if you don't want to do anything about it.

So landlords get $3000 to house a single family.

Hmm, every landlord should be looking at this with glee: No rent stabilization crap, and I get to have $3,000 per unit without having to keep up the place.

eminent domain goes through the court and it is very lengthy and difficult to justify. sounds more like he is trying to deflect blame and ride it out until his term ends. It is hard to know what will be the state of NYC as a welfare entity once tax reform is implemented, continue decrease in federal funding for NYCHA, and NYC does not having control over it's taxes.

Well...I should think (and would hope) that he declares eminent domain only on slumlords -- such as Jared Kushner.

You are against slumlords, aren't you? Enemies of The People should suffer worse than lose substandard housing stock.
