So you clearly didn't read the article. FYI, there's no talk of a "spike" in crime.
Just read it. They didn’t provide any statistics but they implied that hotels used to the house homeless are prone to crime. While not all homeless are criminals, there is definitely a criminal/seedy element that comes along with and among the homeless. There’s no denying that.
I thought there was a bill that some council member wanted to advance that would require any hotel that housed homeless to post a sign to let customers know. I wonder how that went.

I don't disagree.
My point was really that the OP didn't really read the article fully or he would not posted this thread title. And others of course don't read the article either and just react. Let's have informed discussions people.
These hotels are/ have been popping up like pop tarts. All over the 5 boroughs, a new hotel will open in areas without a need, depending on the garaunteed rates offered by the city. The could care less of the clientele.
These hotels get to do without a typical hotel staff. People running the program will bring their own monitors/security. The owner just kicks back and collects checks. Win win, for everyone except the neighbors.
Some of the hotels are either single parent families, only men, or only battered women. They don't usually mix up the groups.
The city should build a dedicated building/housing, or buy up buildings in need of repair, refurbish then house the needy.
So crime happens, usually when there is desperation, like poor struggling families trying to get back to being self sufficient. Many of these families do make it, while others get scared away and end up sharing an apartment with another person.
When people hit rock bottom, they end up there through drug abuse, mental issues, divorce, domestic violence, low education levels, etc. So ,the snakes and vulture will go after easy prey.

Brilliant idea! Guess you don't read the newspapers. That's exactly what de Blasio plans on doing!
