Some parts of NYC receiving "moderately hard" water? (New York: living in, store)

I was just checking out the most recent water quality report for NYC, which states that most of the city receives soft water but that in areas of the city where the Catskill/Delaware water (soft) is mixed with the Croton water supply (hard), hardness levels can reach 7 grains/gallon (moderately hard). Does anyone have any idea what parts of the city are receiving this water?
I have to say that NYC water isn't nearly as soft as I thought... I notice it especially when washing my hands - my hands get super dry and it seems like the soap hasn't completely washed off, despite feeling like it has (no slippery feeling).
There's nothing soft about the water in the Financial District. It clogged up my shower heads, ate through my cheap big box store faucets, and colored my grout orange and the inside of my toilet tank black. In the summer, it could sometimes stink so badly of chlorine that you could smell it on the clothes and sheets you washed.
All the tap water I've had in NYC, Long Island, and upstate has tasted A1
Yes I have to agree with you on that (except I don't have experience with upstate water). NYC water usually tastes great, and same with Long Island (unless you go far out east... then the water starts to taste really bad).

YIKES! Maybe you're in an area that receives the mixed water.... those "hard water" issues are not what we expect living in New York! :-(

I live in a hard water area now and while it's definitely different from NYC, whose water did taste very fine and is rated as one of the cleanest municipal waters in the country, I did have all those hard water signs. Here you can see mineral deposits on anything you don't wipe dry. I could get a water softener, but I've felt that kind of water and prefer the hard, tbh.
For those who are only used to New York or bottled A1 water
Try boiling it and then refrigerate before drinking.
Try adding a store purchased faucet filter.
Try adding water to a store purchased water filtration pitcher.
I have gone as far as combining all the above : water from faucet filter, poured into pot until boiling, letting it cool down and finally adding it to a store brought water filtration pitcher, refrigerating and once poured, tasting phenomenal. A lot of work but well worth the time invested.
