Sorry to say but most of these ill persons will never get better and need to be humanely euthanized.

I used to ride late night trains when I lived in NYC years ago. The cars were clean and no walking dead were befouling the subway.

Society used to have "State Hospitals" to warehouse those woe begotten souls who fell to the bottom of the bottom.

Government felt it far more important to keep dumping money onto the wealthy and the patients, mainly custodial, were released with a bottleful of pills that they could not afford to REfill, and Ronny Ray-Gun sought another tax cut with the money saved.

So now we have the streets and subways befouled by those who cannot take care of themselves. This is not a problem until some rich Fifth Avenue matrons can smell the stench from their cabs or limos.

Yep, this age is suitably gilded.

Don't say government. Say De Blasio. New Yorkers voted for this clown and now that the s**t is hitting the fan, everyone wants to leave his name out of the mess. He is running this city into the ground and the idiots that voted for him are getting what they voted for. He's destroying this city one day at a time with his liberal policies and his stepping away from broken window policies that have been effective for years.

Yeah. And that's a shame.

Don't worry, Governor Andrew Cuomo will throw another lavish New Year's Eve party again in a SAS station and all will be well once more

Yes let's not worry. The homeless will be cleared out of the stations and litter will be completely picked up. What an @ss he is.

Being poor is not a crime, and being homeless does not mean one is mentally ill or that one should be incarcerated.

That's why the government doesn't just LOCK up poor people. And by the way, in the era in which people were locked up in state hospitals, homosexuality was considered a mental illness. Are you willing to advocate for yourself and your partner to be locked up?

People are homeless because they have no money, they lost their jobs, it's difficult to get enough government benefits, etc. There's no proof most homeless are mentally ill or that most remain permanently homeless.

^^^^^^Geez, Louise,
You criticize me for damning the closing of the State Hospitals for providing food, care, and shelter for the most downtrodden of society but you ignore the post before mine that called for EUTHANIZING the homeless and poor.

Your value system might need serious adjustment, dude.
