This sounds great, if they can make it happen. More parkland means more greenery, cleaner air, more recreation. I assume it will also make it a lot easier to cross the parkway which will reknit neigbhorhoods broken up by its inception.

The Bronx already has enough parkland. They should cover the expressway and put back the neighborhood that Robert Moses took away!

Make it all affordable housing!

Pay the $5!!!!!

Agreed but NY’ers are very NIMBY so building more housing will not get any public support whereas parks are easy sells.

I think covering it is a great idea, as said, to knit the neighborhoods back together. The CBE is a scar in more ways than one.

As for whether it should be park or housing, why not both? The Bronx does have a very high percentage of open space, but it is concentrated in a few large areas whereas the Cross Bronx goes through pretty densely built urban areas, some parks between developments would only increase the value (the true value, not just the $$$) of not only any new development, but the neighborhoods on either side.

Any way you look at it though, Bronx needs more housing stock if they are going to have a chance of averting the insane rise in rents.

Literally no one spoke about removing it, only covering it as the article states.

The parks would help knit the neighborhood together again since it's way easier to cross than an open freeway gap. Maybe they can do a combination of the two with buildings in whatever parts are easiest to do so and parks in other parts especially those parts furthest away from the major parks in the Bronx.

Oops my bad.

I'm surprised such a concept actually exists, and I think it's a great idea.
