‘unaffordable’.

While over one-in-four Queens locals would call their neighborhood unaffordable, residents of the “World’s Borough” remain loyal to their hometown and would recommend it to a friend, a recent report found.
A total 70 percent of Queens residents surveyed said they had no plans to move — the second-highest percentage, behind Staten Island.

New report says 29 percent of Queens residents find their neighborhood 'unaffordable' - QNS.com

Shouldn't they just say they wish it were cheaper? It seems to me if you're going to say something's unaffordable but then make no attempt to move, then...I guess it is technically affordable, right?

Errrr...I thought that was pretty obvious...? No? Maybe so? I guess common sense is not that common these days.

For renters, for renters who rent more than they can afford, people who bought in the past 2 years, people who bought more than they could afford. Our mortgage payment is 12% of our gross monthly income. We have no student loans or car payments. Pretty affordable if you ask me.

What got me is their loyalty to Queens (even recommending the borough to friends). And that, that sentiment is only second to that of SI residents. Unaffordable or not, they otherwise like the place where they're at.

I like Queens because it is affordable, cheap even. You get the suburb feeling without commiting to Long Island/Westchester. It is convenient to travel to the city via LIRR. Close to two airports. Diversity means you get all sorts of ethnic goodies and eateries. Neighborly.
Over half my block have lived/owned for the past 20, some 30 to 40 years. Every house is owner occupied. A house was just sold. The previous owner died after living there for 30 plus years.
I don't see us selling for the next 10 to 15 years.

Edited to add: and convenient to travel to Long Island

I hear that often from Queens residents. Liking Queens that is and not wanting to live in any other borough. My mom... you couldn't pay her to leave & recommends Queens to every friend & family member. I've been trying to get her to move to Manhattan near my apt for years and have finally given up. She's not going anywhere. The whole place could flood in the next hurricane/storm (she's in a flood prone zone) and she'll still probably just rebuild and stay put.
