What was the demographics of Hell Kitchen during the 1980s and 1990s? Was it still Irish or maybe Puerto Rican? Who were often the victims of crime? Was Hell Kitchen a crime ridden area for all types of people? Or perhaps the mob?
I only know Brooklyn we’ll as far as the 90s go!
I’m assuming so because I got my BA at John Jay and doing my masters there now and the north hall which just shut down use to be everyone’s favorite building in the old days because the students were scared to even go outside according to the professors I know who still teach there. Since 1990 - 95 were some of the most rough years in NYC history I was wondering how bad Hells Kitchen was and the demographics.
I know the area had a rough Irish history from long long ago but not so sure about 1970 till 95.
There were some chinese delivery boys get killed while making deliveries. Hell's Kitchen had some projects. Delivery boy go up the stairs and get ambushed.

Pretty sure the Irish moved to the burbs by late 80s if not before. I use to go to Hell's Kitchen in the 90s. My family owned a business there. On 50th st between 9th and 8th there used to be a Cineplex Odeon theatre. They use to show popular movies that came out a year prior to give people a chance to catch it in theatres if they missed.
