As a rookie, try to get into a Queens west Garage. The East garages are very senior and you wont have good seniority for a while.

Queens East garages:

Q7, Q8, Q10, Q11, Q12, Q13, Q14

Queens West garages:

Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5, Q6, Q9

West garages are more junior and you usually move up in seniority pretty quickly(except Q6). Q1, Q2, Q5 are in my opinion the beat west garages. Q1 and Q9 are the only “stay out” garages in the west, so if you are interested in night shifts, those would be your best bet.

East Garages are more senior for a variety of reasons.

1. They are the closest garages to Long Island

2. Most of them dont have a nightly basket route

3. Weights normally arent as heavy as west garages

4. Cleaner districts

If you want to go to an east garage, 12 is good for junior people seniority wise.

Here’s my take on the west garages. I’m sure others will disagree with some of it because the truth is it’s what your looking for in a garage that makes it work for you.

Q1: good routes, recycle can be heavy. You can move up quickly. Guys stick together. Great garage.

Q2: good garage, good routes. Will take a while to move up.

Q3: long heavy routes. Dirty district. You can move up quickly but not the best place for a probie

Q4: dirty district. Heavy but manageable routes. Will take a while to move up.

Q5: good routes some heavy some not, some dirty some not. You can move up just not fast.

Q6: great routes, clean district. Super senior. You are not moving up here.

Q9: dirty district with ok routes. Fastest place to move up.

Like I said you need to find out for yourself what you like. The places I like others don’t and the places I don’t like others do. This is just my opinion.

Good Luck.

Union spoke with the class today. Confirmed next class is in September and as of now is the last class of the year. No mention of how many for September. Our class has 133

You got a cell phone with a camera ? Take a picture of the documents you need then they won’t have to be in your hand. That intelligent enough for you?

Can someone list some automatic disqualifiers. Such as arrests, DUI ,criminal summons during background check? Do they ask for the current DMV abstract or a lifetime driving record? How many years back tax returns? Do you submit the e-packet online or so you fill it out online collect documents and bring it in to the office?and last question if Im planning a 2 week vacation for the last week of August and 1st week of September would I miss any deadlines or appointments?

Call HR. This forum is a good source of info but that sounds like questions you want answered straight from HR.
