I was also in 8th grade, and didn't really understand what it all meant. I believe my aunt picked my cousin and I up from school and told us about it. For some reason, I remember it was raining, a nor'easter? I always associate nor'easters with that bombing to this day.

No. It was snowing, a heavy, wet snow, but there was no major wind.
I was in 8th grade as well and in Idaho. I remember I wondered why it made our news and wondered why it was so important to know. I think that was my first peak of interest in NYC. I also recall thinking if it's that important it will happen again until they succeed with it. Then 9/11 happened with the same buildings. I still wonder why they picked those buildings?
I also was enamoured with the coverage of Operation Desert Storm in the nightly news. However, in hindsight I think that programming gave me a very biased opinion of the MENA countries, after further study and experience. I swore to my childhood self back then that from what I saw I'd never marry a Muslim and here I am. Never say never.
