How safe is the immediate area east and west of the 183 street station stop on the 4 train?

Isn't that one of the worst neighborhoods in the whole borough?

That's the border of Fordham (east of Jerome) and University Heights (west of Jerome). It's not great, but it's on par with any bad neighborhood in NYC--which is, if you're just there during the day and you're not an idiot, it's pretty much fine.

The tone of some of the responses here differs a lot from the Mott Haven thread. What gives?

I don't know about the Mott Haven thread, but stuff even happens in the daytime around 183rd Street on the 4 train. That area is a little rowdier than the average bad area.

Lots of brown people.

Be afraid.

They eat babies.
