I was summoned before from failing to get a white ticket at the MTA select bus. But the reason why I didn't get the ticket was because it was snowing, I had a herniated disc (walking with a cane), and on top of that, there was ice by the ticket dispensers. So I just decided to hop on the bus without taking the ticket.
A cop saw me and summoned me $100. I answered the summon by mail and explained the above, and the court basically reduced the fine to $65
Apparently, if after February 1, 2018, if you just plead completely not guilty, the NYPD will decline to prosecute.
If you spot a plainclothed personage just hangin' out inside a train station for no apparent reason, be 100% assured it be "undercover" cop.
I always purchase my metrocards with credit or debit cards so as to have a money trail, and _always_ have atleast 3 cards on hand fully filled up, so as to avoid exactly such incidents.
Is it really that simple? Because then everyone could just plead not guilty and city would lose a lot of fine money....
That's what the mayor has decided to do. They are not enforcing lower level citations because they believe the cops should be focusing on more serious offenses. https://nypost.com/2018/02/01/cops-w...umpers-source/
In doing some research on this, I just discovered that moving between subway cars is illegal with a $75 fine, even when the subway car is stopped at the station? I didn't know that- I used to do that all the time as a kid, with my dad. I'm glad to know that if I ever get busted for it now I can simply plead not guilty and they will decline to prosecute.
Okay, there’s a lot of bad info on this thread. There’s a difference between civil and criminal summons. The “decline to prosecute” refers to criminal. You got a civil summons. Don’t ignore. Try to fight it or just pay.
For future reference, if you have this issue again where the turnstile won’t read your card properly, just go talk to the attendant. Whenever I’ve had issues, they just let me through.
