I was accused here of moving to areas "I don't belong" based on DNA alone.
Do you mean being white? I feel like a white native New Yorker living in Bushwick or Bed Stuy would still be viewed as a transplant by the anti-gentrification activists.

That's kind of my point. People buy where they can afford to live. White people have middle class incomes too. They all aren't trust fund babies.
I never understood the transplants hate. If someone comes in and buys the properties, gets the high paying jobs over you then that is on YOU.
A lot of them aren't even high income, many work service jobs and live in flophouses.
It's interesting to me that a lot of the people who complain about transplants have parents who aren't from NYC. So are their parents not real New Yorkers or do they get a pass for not being white?

No they would not.

You don't get it.
So I will break it down.
My parents are not even from the country but they are New Yorkers. For one simple reason.
They bought in. And I don't mean the house, they bought into the culture. They started taking the train and eating pizza just like everybody else. With no intentions of leaving.
That's like a guy who is from NYC, makes it to the NBA, and gets drafted by like, let's say the Bulls. He never moves to Chicago, he maintains a home in New York, and all his ties to NYC, but he has to rep Chicago because he plays for the Bulls. So while the people of Chicago love him, he really wasn't a "Chicagoan" per se, but he was just repping the city at the time.
The transplant is that NBA player.
They're not really New Yorkers. They just want to come here and make as much money as they can. Not everybody that moves here has that transplant mentality though.
Back in the day, people came here, and slummed it, and did not leave. They put down roots and stayed. It's not like that anymore. Transplants mostly come here, work 10 years, and go back home to buy the 3000 sq ft home and take an executive position in the biggest city back home. How could the existing middle class beat that when you got people coming in willing to work for whatever and get abused. Willing to share a bedbug loft in Brooklyn for what. LoL.
