Thank you very much! - I'm only nervous due to me being in my current position for 15+ years and have not been on an interview in so long. The days are actually vacation time I already scheduled and booked as due to covid didn't go anywhere lasts year. I can take an unpaid leave. But hoping that doesn't dampen their idea of myself. Let's see what happens next. Only time will tell.
SO UPDATE:
They sent me a letter that I was not reached by Rank at this time. Better luck next time
tier 6 refers to the class of pension benefits you'll receive upon retirement, in the NYS pension system.
Tier 6 applies to teachers (at least in the NYC suburbs and upstate, I think NYC has its own separate retirement system) and civil servants (e.g., court employees).
Police and fire have separate, more generous retirement systems.
Call Albany or go to the NYS retirement system website for more info, but that's the gist of it.
Tier 6 gives you 35% of average wages after 20 years of service, less a discount ("penalty") if you're retiring before you reach 62 years old.
Lower tiers would allow you to retire earlier without penalty and/or receive 40% of average wages after 20 years of service.
Calculations get a bit more complicated if you have less or more than 20 years of service, and/or you retire before age 62.
I just started my position at Yonkers and I just received an canvass letter for Metro NYC Courts. Do you think I should state I am interested in this new canvass as well? One of my coworkers said it takes 1 year to get permanent and if the person you are currently placed decided they will come back to the position, I will be sent back to wherever I came from. Then again it’s only a n canvass not a request for interview yet.
@2017CaCandidate, your coworker is correct.
It takes at least one year to be made permanent - it took me longer because of Covid.
You can be shifted around when you're contingent permanent, especially while on probation, but it's not that likely.
You just have to sort of be flexible - there should be enough of a need for workers and a high enough budget for now that you won't be sent far if you're reassigned.
If you want to be in NYC instead of Yonkers then go ahead and respond to the canvass letter - you should always respond, actually, yes or no, to any canvass letter you receive. If you're interested, say "yes" and indicate you can come on board within two weeks. You get paid time off when you interview for any position within the court system, just let your supervisor know when/where the interview is scheduled and fill out a leave request form.
