You mean cave crickets? They're super common in Long Island basements, so perhaps they're common in the basements of detached houses in Brooklyn and Queens.

They're not actually spiders so your arachnophobia shouldn't apply!

I asked my friend Peter Parker on this topic. He said that jumping spiders are extremely shy and usually run away when encountering a big ass human. Since they are small they can't deliver a venom dose strong enough to affect a human.
