those do not fall in the white category, they go with the 78% that is mixed. that 16% of white poeple are not very mixed. some of them are second or thrid generation european inmigrants. some are old time dominicans.
true that the majority of Dominican whites are of Mediterranean origin are will not be out of ordinary. but some are very white, blond ect, i know as a personal anecdote, i observed as a kid, that white Dominicans suffered a form of "soft racism" as they didnt look like the majority. i had a friend that had to cut off his hair. so people stop assuming he was some tourist. but he was 100% dominican.
when you too different then is also bad.
No one is saying that there are NO WHITE Dominicans. Of course they exist. They are just a small percentage of the population.
Which is why your friend had to cut his hair, to fit in because people thought he was a foreigner.
After the Spanish civil war and WW2 a number of Europeans moved to Latin America. Some of those people have yet to marry in with the local populations, and they are basically pretty much the only white people in countries like Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, and the DR. Of course some of them have already married into the local populations.
I'm not sure, and of course self identification is different from what an American would perceive. Put it like this, it's the very rare Dominican that is Hillary Clinton white and they are probably the descendants of Europeans fleeing WW2.
I doubt that even Argentina and Chile are as white as their censuses say.
These days more people come out and admit this sort of thing, even from those countries as people feel more comfortable talking about the various heritages of their nation.

And their descendents will eventually mix with brown Dominicans anyway.
I've spoke to a few Mexicans and Ecuadorians who have visible native ancestry, but they consider themselves white. If they grew up in the US, there would be a pretty much a 0% chance they would consider themselves white.
