Hello,
My wife is going to be a resident inRichmond University Medical Center. I think it was called St. Vincent's Catholic Med Center. The residency provides housing in the same block (a building in the back of the hospital). The good part is it has 2 parking spots and the rent is extremely cheap. One bedroom is 650.00 and a 2 bedroom is 800.00.
We lived in Bay Ridge Brooklyn for 2 years 2004-2006. So we know is cheap, we used to street park and pay 1200 for a one bedroom. I called the landlord and now the apartment is 1300. When my wife visit the hospital (for the interview) she notice that is a very Hispanic presence in the area. She told me is like Sunset Park in Brooklyn.
I really don’t know much about Staten Island “The Rock”. I need to know how to get to Manhattan and the fastest way? Should I take the 46/96 or the 44/94 to St. George Ferry Terminal and then take the free ferry? Or take the express bus 30 that goes to Jersey and then Manhattan or take other express bus that goes to Brooklyn?
How long is the commute? Also we have a 2 y/o boy and don’t know where or how expensive daycares are? Is it a good area? I know in SI you need a car more or less. I am guessing it is West New Brighton, since the area code is 10310. Does anyone know the local news paper? The community web page with forums and news??? Like in Bay Ridge, www.bayridge.com and Bay Ridge Home Reporter? I found a few websites like SILive: Everything Staten Island

Wow, I can't recall a time since I've been a member of this forum where there have been so many active SI threads at once.

No don't worry. There are few people on the forum who are familiar with SI. I was just making an observation, since there is usually very little SI talk on here.

Where in Manhattan do you need to get to? If you're going to lower Manhattan, the ferry is probably best. If you're going to Midtown, that might not be the case. Staten Island is notorious for some of the longest commutes in the area, though West New Brighton is not as bad as other places. A big issue is having to wait for the ferry; they don't run all that often as the evening wears on.
