I find Farmer's Markets are the worst price gougers...they think all New Yorkers live on Park Avenue. The one nearest me is the worst: 92nd and First, they drag the same tired old produce back and forth every Sunday from May through November.
On the UES we have little produce stands all over the place, open 7 days a week, dawn to dark. The deals there are among the best, but you've still got to be wary and buy in season, or your produce is going to be tasteless, expensive or both.
I like my infrequent shopping trip to Chinatown, I still find bargains like $.99 ginger, nice jicama, cheap soy sauce and tofu, cherries in Spring, and I combine shopping with a nice lunch. Next trip will be a half duck at a Vietnamese joint on Bayard.
Chinatown. Because I basically live across the street, it's pretty great. Gotta love those oranges. If I'm feeling spendy, I go to Urban Market. Key Food sales are good, but I generally don't buy produce from them aside from a few fruit here and there.

How lucky for you. If I were in your shoes it would be fresh fish 3 times a week.
Less Made in China... More Made in USA. MAGA!!
Anyway I believe in spending a bit more for local and organic. It's worth it. I know that Target offers cheap produce but it looks sad and almost none of it is produced locally. People just don't learn. Food from China is CHEAP for a reason. Hello! They have NO regulations over there!
You don't know what you're buying.
I buy 365 frozen organic peas, roasted corn etc. Great price, Made in USA, and superb quality! Whole Foods has some of the best organic honey crisp apples around from Washington or sometimes from upstate NY. We have great farms here in NY people! Spend a little more for quality.
Which? I go to the Union Square market and don't find it cheap at all - except the bags of apples.

As I said, I don't find Chinatown to be particularly cheaper. So can you tell us specifically what places you have in mind? And what's Urban Market?

Why don't you just come out say how much you're looking to spend on produce because if you don't find Chinatown to be cheaper with the crap they sell from China, then I don't see how any other place could be cheaper, especially with the high rents here.
