Sort of like Ditmas Park that the OP mentioned, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens is another real estate development of the former Town of Flatbush.
The Lefferts used to be an important family in Brooklyn and Queens. When they broke up their Flatbush area farm for development in the late 1800s, they tried to control its development and called the area "Lefferts Manor". The name was changed later to Prospect-Lefferts Gardens to note that the area is near Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
The Lefferts colonial farmhouse still stands, although it was moved a few blocks into Prospect Park. There is also a Lefferts Blvd. in Richmond Hill, Queens.
East Village
Clinton Hill
Hamilton Heights
the rest can go
I agree. Those are the only neighborhood names I recognize on the list.
Clinton is definitely made up. It's Hell's Kitchen, dammit. The realtors tried to clean up it's image by changing it to Clinton. Glad that name has never really stuck.

Nobody really says Hell's Kitchen any more either
Everybody just says Midtown now

Hamilton HeightGeneral Forumss has been called that for well over 50 years. Its now a historic district. It is a part of West Harlem, but even the old people refer to the area as HH. There is a sub neighborhood in HH named Sugar Hill. It was named that almost 100 years ago referring to the "sweet life" as the neighborhood was a wealthy black enclave until the 80s and 90s when crack turned HH into a war zone.
These days I find the area to be one of the most beautiful in the city. No fake name needed.
Nope it was always call Harlem from 155 street to 110 street RE agents started the
Hamilton Heights crap in the 90s!
