When numerous people see headlines like this, I doubt many people know that there is a specific amount budgeted at the City and State level for citizen-patrol groups. These funds are for all groups. There is no specific City and State funding for one group over a another. Each group sends up their requests/needs. The lower amount of groups that exist, the higher the amount each group gets. Each group is required monthly to account for how money is spent and thus have a designated person to do the accounting who is paid by that funding.

When one travels into areas where the Shomrim and the Shmira exist and see that they have marked cars, should keep in mind that other groups may have cars also but they are unmarked. An easy way to see if a car is part of a citizen-patrol group is that it has a Yellow light. Yellow light permits are issued by precincts.

Who is to say the stats put out by NYC stats without citizen-patrol groups without a study being done. A group shouldn't be condemned because it has a few bad people within it's ranks.

Shomrim and the Guardian Angels to me are two different things. Maybe now you'll see the difference.

I understand you have some bias towards it, but to me, Shomrim is not a citizen patrol group.

They could be called Group A and Group B for all it matters. They were both funded by the same funds. The difference now it that people don't want to volunteer any of their time to do so.

Then I don't get the point of your thread. Are you just trying to provide information, or are you trying to make a point for discussion?

Government graft, ALL of them. None of these groups should exist. I don't care who they represent. It's all a scam. At least the Guardian Angels attempt to serve EVERYONE...

There is already ONE Official government funded citizen patrol organization. Why do we need more than one?

https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/caree...ry-police.page

They cover all neighborhoods of the city, not just one or two specifically.
