I think that AMerican juries are as stupid and brainwashed as the general population...too stupid to know even that "jury nullification" is a real thing.

I use it for one purpose: to get out of jury duty.
"No, your honor, I will judge both facts AND law."

Paraphrase: "If the law is sh*t, you must acquit."

Quote:
Judges have no obligation to inform jurors about their nullification powers, and they don’t. Defense attorneys are prohibited from informing jurors about nullification in the courtroom. Still, if a juror already understands the theory and legal status of jury nullification before entering the courtroom, he or she can be a powerful agent of social change.
An article about jury nullification of bad laws published in the Times, the Daily News, and the Post would go a long way towards enhancing democracy (rule by the people) in the United States, or at least in New York.

I agree it should be legal.
But we all know the different arrest rates tho are due to different cultural uses. Whites have for decades tended to use it indoors, in their homes etc. You don't get arrested there much. But while celebrating diversity and cultures, no-one is allowed in the PC world to admit that different cultures = different behaviors. While culture is not genetic, it does exist. Culture is a set of beliefs, behaviors and tendencies. Different cultures are necessarily.... different. If you use pot outside on the bench on the streets then the chances you will get arrested is about 100% more than if you are in your house /friend's place doing the same. The black/white disparity in marijuana use (not rate of use but type of use) is not a secret to anyone honest (i.e. not Pretend Correct)

Anyway, the result is the same with this law - despite the implication the disparity in arrest rates is due to racism and not plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face different behavioral use - pot becomes effectively legal. If you can burn tobacco leaves in public then why can you burn cannabis leaves? Seems fair.

Somebody researched this?

Was there some sort of survey done so that we can see the results?

How do you know this is a fact?

City is backsliding right into the 1980's. They've done this before (issuing desk appearance tickets), and it was a disaster. People didn't bother to show up and so forth. But why worry about those consequences (issuing warrants) when Mr. Vance and the other DAs simply hold "clear open warrant days", to erase.

Time to send this some kind of DA back to the woods where he came from .

So some DAs are already saying they won’t prosecute people arrested for possession. Good move. More has to be done until there is complete legalisation.

You're a bit late; there is already a thread on this subject.

Simply legalize marijuana period.

It's a waste of taxpayer resources. Convicts with criminal records probably won't get jobs, so it's either welfare and/or some sort of crime/off the books income for them.

In a statement released Sunday, the Democratic mayor says the city must plan for the eventual reality of marijuana legalization and the "public safety, health and financial consequences involved."

Focus on serial drunk drivers, rapists, killers, gangs into extortion and domestic terrorism. Cut the personal drug use war and stop criminalizing mental illness and homelessness.
