Get out there and see it while it lasts; memories of super storm Sandy are already beginning to fade and people are back to wanting to make money.

Maybe try to get a foundation to raise enough money to purchase it for preservation; can there be some kind of tax write-off combination that can work out in the owners favor while trying to bring down the price?

When Pouch Camp was in danger of being sold off due to Boy Scouts having financial problems, state stepped in with an easement which gave some relief.

IIRC the state and perhaps local government have at least two main ways of "saving" undeveloped land. Easements and purchase by the land trust.

Several RC religious communities in past have made RE killings by selling off large tracts of land along South Shore. Some was sold to private developers, others to Albany.

But not just in NYC: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/16/n...olic-nuns.html

However as the hot mess that has become Mount Manresa proves both on SI and elsewhere state or local government must meet landowner's number, or someone else will.

Obviously NYS and NYC do not have unlimited funds. Neither can they employ eminent domain or even landmark status willy-nilly as a legal challenge will surely follow.

Right, but maybe there's a foundation or two or benefactors willing to pony up some money. Whose Staten Island's biggest living patron? RZA? Maybe Wu-Tang can buy it and name it Shaolin Shores

I just can't with you tonight.

If you count the Savo Brothers (look them up) as "benefactors" there you are; they like mostly everyone else is looking to get their taste. Again look at Mount Manresa; neither the state nor city (or anyone else besides developers) would pay what the Jesuits wanted for the place.

No one is going to donate or sell their land out there for below what they think can get unless something major happens. By that mean one or perhaps two more storms like Sandy in a short period of time.
