Most likely moving to NYC soon and will be working on Park Ave. (somewhere in between 46-49th St.)

Would like to stay around $2300-2500 for a 1 bedroom (no roommates) and 30-35 min commute each way.

Where should I be looking? I’d also look at a 2/1 for $2500 (if possible) in Queens or something for my SO’s sake but would rather keep the commute under 35 min. I’m open to anywhere that’s safe. Doesn’t have to be a “cool” area (not like I can afford it anyway)

Parkchester is a great option.

You can get a 2 bed for that price and your only 30min from manhattan.

They have a lot of cool statues and a fountain.

You can probably find a 2 bedroom for $2500 in Jackson Heights. Best area is around 77th st and 37th ave or 35th ave. Anywhere in the historic district is fine but that's an ideal location for transportation and amenities.

Btw I doubt the post above mine is serious.

Also check Astoria but make sure you're near a subway. Astoria is quite large.

Thanks! I visited Astoria and really liked the area. I found a feasible option but it appears to be an 8 min walk from the subway which is fine to me, but a few people I’ve talked to say 8 minutes is too long.

$2500/mo. will get you an okay, but older, 1-bed in the more distant sections of the UES. Nothing fancy, but if your priority is keeping the commute down while not spending insanely, it could be a good option for you. You might be able to find one with a decent commute via the 4/5/6.

You can actually get a one bedroom in Tudor City for around $2500. Commute is legitimately 15 minutes without having to take into account subway delays, etc.

Stupid, unfunny Parkchester jokes indeed abund on this forum, and Tudor City in midtown Manhattan is indeed what the OP is probably looking for. But, OP - if you are open to "experimental" options, you can use your one-year amount of rent payments in Tudor City as a down-payment on a 1-bdrm condo in Parkchester, the Bronx, the only marginally decent place in NYC where you can buy a condo for that price. Your commute by subway will be 30-45 min each way, but even if you don't settle in NYC permanently, you'll end up owning a foothold on the ground (or pied a terre, if the mod will allow a bit of French) in NYC, which is still priceless. Renting is just wasting $. Just a thought. See things for yourself, and make your own judgement.

If you don't mind an older building, you can look in Sunnyside in Queens. You'd have to contend with the 7 train, and there's often construction on the line on weekends. But when it's running normally, it's a quick ride to Midtown.
