i just saw all applications and renewals can only be done on line . you do everything on line then mail in a credit card authorization form and your photo's .

once they get it they will start the process on their end . it can still take months but hopefully it speeds up the process . you will need a scanner to scan in the documents you have to attach . proof of residence , identity and address , utility bill, and a bunch of forms you have to print out and fill out as well as copy of current license if renewal . .

Nice, now we as citizens can more conveniently get denied a pistol permit.

i can tell you in my more than 25 years involved in the shooting sports i never knew anyone denied a residence permit who had zero blemishes in their background .

everyone pretty much hears stories of someone denied but there are always reasons behind the scene they are not telling you .

they will hold any blemishes in the past against you . most denied try not to mention these things and get caught not disclosing them .

carry permits are a different story .

Good to know. I actually have never applied for a pistol permit, but do consider it soon.

be careful if you are doing your renewals . the system allows you to gain access to filling out the application right away .

however you need to register your e-mail address first which is not easily apparent and to wait for an e-mail link to that application ..

once you do that you get an e-mail link . you click on the link and it takes you to the application section .

if you jump the gun it lets you fill out the paperwork but goes no farther when you try to get to the rest of the pages . you just get a message e-mail not verified and you are dead in the water . you have to call or go down at that point and they manually have to work you around it with their access powers . .

Going to doubt this would speed up the wait time to hear back much, but it’s a good step.

Is this the link? If so you still have to go to the office to get fingerprinted for a new application. So the only difference is that instead of mailing an application you enter it online? Is that really a big difference?

personally i think it stinks doing it on line . it is a lot of work scanning with all the stuff you need to attach and if you do something wrong in the process it locks you out .

as far as not having to go there to get the application , that was a half day off from work at the least , that is a good thing . i have not been to 1pp in years but the dmv on the worst day beat their best day.

the number of trips you have to make is crazy so anything less is welcomed .

typically you had to go to 1pp for the application . at one time the application could only be done on a type writer . no hand written . so generally you had to go to a range who did the application for you on a type writer just for applications . then you had to find a place that not only does passport style photo's but they had to be 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 and not the standard cvs 2x2 .

then you needed to find a notary .

then you brought the application back and got finger printed . in about 9 months they called you back for an interview .

then you get a notice in the mail your license is approved .

they won't mail it , you have to pick it up . mind you the wait at 1pp was half a day each time .

so now you get the license and a purchase order to buy a firearm . you go to the dealer pick up the firearm and you have 72 hours to get back to 1pp for inspection and registration . you can't do it the same day since the hours do not usually fall out right to do both .

so yeah , anything that saves a trip is a day you may not have to take off from work

the renewals were taking forever the old way , especially the rifle and shotgun division . i know people who waited 3 months after their expiration for their renewal .

Do they still require proof that you have someone who will inherit your weapons in case you die or something?
