Does anyone know what is the law for changing the layout in my apt from a studio to a one bedroom?

It's a coop. I will deal with the board and the management office. But is there NYC law regulating this change?

New home owner. Newbie...

Thank you!

Umm good lick with that:

Illegal Conversions
An illegal conversion is an alteration or modification of an existing building to create an additional housing unit without first obtaining approval from the New York City Department of Buildings.

What you quoted is not really applicable since they are not creating a new housing unit. However this may still require you to submit to the building department to ensure minimum room dimensions are being maintained. While it may not, it is best to consult an Architect to determine if it will require an application.

Could you do it and no one will ask? Sure it is possible. I imagine the Board will also have a say if they are going to require you to file the job.

I always like to have a good lick when I'm doing apartment renovations.

They are actually worth the cost. Nyc building codes looks like a foreign language to most people. Pay for an expert, they also know the ins and outs and ways around certain codes.
