stick to the original discussion please, we were talking about words being assault. You said I don't have the right to call someone whatever... meaning that I should be arrested for calling someone a name. Is that how you feel? Words that hurt feelings = arrest?

A few days ago. I wanted to film a black woman who started a racial conflict with a white man. She started saying effing white people, how she can't stand white people, she is saying racial stuff while holding a baby who is very light skin and with hair like a white baby. I wanted to record her. But I said no. It's not right, and unethical. Plus I can be sued for defamation. I just shook my head instead.

People are not arrested for defending themselves. She was talking on the phone, when he decided to verbally assault her.
But don't worry, at some point people will start broadly exposing people online for saying bigoted things. It will be a whole new internet..............

The closest thing to a "Verbal Assault" is to threaten with bodily harm. He never did from what i saw in the video.
Hurtful words are not assault.
Yes they are certainly assault under NYS law, when it concerns things such as RACE, RELIGION, DISABILITY, or other protected categories.
