Someone from Yonkers or Mt. Vernon is a transplant? Lol aw man you can't make this up. The provincialism among a lot of New Yorkers is incredible. For that matter anyone from Staten Island might as well be a transplant too especially if they're from the South Shore.
Obviously some people have too much time and negative energy on your hands. Going around bit$hing and moaning all the time about people who move here from somewhere else really shows how interesting and cool you are. NOT.
It has more to do with access to NYC public transportation, and access to Manhattan at a young age. I've been biking and taking the subway into Manhattan for as long as I can remember.
Queens East of Jamaica is similar in that you either take the LIRR, or a bus to Jamaica to get to Manhattan
Staten Island might actually be more difficult overall than Nassau County in regards to getting to Manhattan.

I have a feeling nobody would say this about people from Long Beach, Compton, Watts, Inglewood, etc. moving to Los Angeles. Or Decatur/College Park to Atlanta

But they still take city buses, go to the Queens public library, etc...but do agree that to a certain extent someone from say Laurelton or Cambria Heights had a more suburban upbringing than someone from Ridgewood or Astoria. But they are still closer to the urban core than a Long Islander.

There are a lot of buses that go from Nassau to Jamaica and Far Rockaway. Some of the city buses go through Long Island to get from Rosedale to the Rockaways.
I think someone from Valley Stream is closer to the urban core than someone from Tottenville, though.
I get that, but I know a lot of people from Long Island and Westchester, and they had a much different childhood experience than a kid from the boros.
But someone from South Shore SI also would have a completely different experience from someone from say, The South Bronx or anywhere in Manhattan
