So the majority of Hispanics aren't even in favor of AA, but people like deBlasio and Carranza insist that they need it
The initiative to change SHSAT isn't really being pushed by hispanic and blacks, but by liberal media, teacher unions, and politicians. Seems noticeable that there no community rally to defined the policy change. Hispanic and blacks have been optioning out of local public schools in large numbers. Fudging the numbers is NYC public schools answer to the wave of privatization that is upon us.
Well something happened after the 1980's because 'Old Stuy' (on East 15th street) had a lot more Black and Hispanic students than 'New Stuy" (in Battery Park) currently does.
Asian kids raised the bar higher than ever. It is just that simple. Clear evidence of Race and IQ.
Or he can try to do "The Bloomberg" but doubt it would succeed for him.
Where's that gif showing Michael Jackson eating popcorn because that's what I'll be doing watching all this unfold.
No, don't think they will do that; but both BdeB and city council have launched charter review commissions.
Early on speak of council was talking about possibly changing term limits because both he and other members "didn't think it was a good idea for so many to be term limited out at once (2021)".
Ironically that was sort of the same argument Rudy G. used, as did Bloomberg and Ms. Quinn.
Rudy was chucked out (term limits); and while Bloomberg and Quinn got their third term it cost both rather dear. Bloomberg was shocked at how close the vote was between himself and Fernando Ferrer. IIRC had only a few more thousand voted for FF he would have won. In any event Bloomberg could hardly claim he had some sort of mandate; and it was clear his overturning of term limits touched nerves.
The Quinn woman got what she deserved for siding with Bloomberg on over turning term limits; the office she so keenly wanted (mayor) went to BdeB.
Either way think NYC politicians clearly note messing with term limits doesn't go down well, so that likely is that.
I really think it's really wrong to punish Asian NYC high school students for being amazingly successful IN SPITE of their (on average) poverty and other disadvantages (many are not first-language English speakers).

They are not being punished, and if they are amazing successful they will be amazingly successful in other high schools (their home neighborhoods) and if there are amazingly successful nothing is going to stop them from finding relevant work or getting into a good college.
No one really gives a crap about what high school someone went to anyway. What college yes, but high school? No.
I don't understand why the test as it is now makes sense for the non-stem oriented schools like Brooklyn Latin and HS of American Studies. Again, it really gives an advantage to kids who are strong in math. Maybe some schools should have a different test or different entry criteria.
